Network Management System

CRL Sweden offers a centralized Network Management System (NMS) with a set of sophisticated tools for remote web based configuration, monitoring, analyzing and security management of single or multiple wireless network devices running CRL Eclair operating system.

The Java™-based graphical user interface (GUI), lets the user configure mesh nodes from any secure LAN connection, and with virtually any computing platform with the Java runtime environment. The NMS software gives you streamlined, point-and-click access to the tools needed to provide a complete solution for real time management and control of your mesh devices.

The NMS auto discovery engine discovers network devices in your environment, and builds an accurate topology model that shows connectivity and relationships between these components. By continuously scanning your network, the CRL NMS software detects any changes to your environment making sure you are always informed and in control.

Network Discovery and Visualization

The CRL NMS automatically scans and detects new platforms, securely collect, interpret and record information from the network devices and make that information available to a network operator.

Software Architecture

The CRL NMS is designed in traditional client/server architecture, the server is implemented in Java™ and utilizes a database to store node configurations, operating statistics, syslog records and user privileges. The NMS server can be installed in any Linux or Windows environment, multi-site and multi-user. The users can be granted different access privileges depending on their role in network operations.

The NMS user will have direct access to a wide range of configuration parameters such as IP, mesh routing, MCMR, multicast, and QoS. The user may select to upload complete or partial configurations to a single or a selection of devices making it very cost effective to manage large networks.

Remote Firmware Updates

The CRL NMS provides remote firmware update as a part of the base functionality. Instead of having to individually update firmware of multiple network devices, simply a firmware image can be uploaded to the NMS server and sent to a selectable group of Eclair nodes with just a few clicks. This simplifies the task of software upgrades and ensures that all Eclair devices share the most current software. The security is enhanced through indiviual key authentication limiting the devices to accept upgrades from digitally approved sources only.

Performance Management

To provide the operator with the current status of the network, automatic device polling checks the health of each node using SNMP. Information such as topology connectivity, CPU load, bandwidth usage, and memory utilization are collected and stored in a database.

The information is logged in detail at the device level and can be viewed graphically for long term planning, analysis, and to implement a more efficient mesh-network topology.

Event Logging and Alarms

The Eclair network nodes support remote syslog, which enables the NMS user to view events and incidents from the mesh platforms. This information is also logged in detail and stored in the server database.
